Name Kochi Fukaba
Address Toyohashi, Japan

I am Japanese. My house is not far from Toyota plant. From elementary school, I studied Asia's history. I learned that Chinese culture like kanji came into Japan through Korea. I always thought that they were great civilizations. Maybe like Egypt or India.

Most of Imperial family's clothes and jewelry were styled after Chinese courts.

The oldest temple in Japan is also a mix of Chinese and Korean architecture. The national treasures come from as far as Greece via the Silk Road. I have always had respect for these great civilizations. Without them, Japan will not be Japan today.

I think that Japan, Korea, China are three cultures that will always be connected, because we share kanji and we eat rice. Also, Buddhism from India came through China, then Korea, and finally Japan.

Some people think that our ancestors are mixed Chinese and Korean. We are like a family.

I think that Chinese and Korean demonstration is like Japanese phenomenon in 1867 called "ee-janaika".

At that time, Japanese were not allowed to travel inside the country, because of Shogunate dictatorship. But if it was for religious reasons, then travel was O.K.

So, one day somebody in Nagoya said that "Look! A religious relic has rained down from the sky!" and that rumor spread to the West and the East. Then about 2-3 million people chanted "ee-janaika", which means "Let It Be", and danced day and night. The crowds would go to rich people's homes and break in, and take money while dancing and singing, but the rich people would also be dancing, giving away food and money.

Nobody knows exactly why everyone became so entranced and kept dancing, but some historian think that anti-government pro-Western force used this chaos as shelter for secret activity. 1981 film by Imamura Shou-hei is titled "Ee-janaika".

The more the Chinese demonstrate in a fever, the more out of control they seem to become. Because nationalism is the only way they are allowed to express emotions freely.
